Last Week's Lesson and Challenge

This week we were asked to combine two lessons.

What are the blessings of a meaningful fast?

To fast is to go without food and drink voluntarily for a certain period of time. Fasting combined with sincere prayer can help you prepare yourself and others to receive God’s blessings. It is a source of spiritual strength. Through fasting we can feel closer to Heavenly Father and strengthen our testimony. Fasting also includes giving a generous fast offering to help those in need.

What are the blessings of honoring the Sabbath day?

The Lord has given the Sabbath day for our benefit and has commanded us to keep it holy. Observing the Sabbath shows our commitment to honor and worship God and keep our covenants. It will bring us closer to the Lord and to our family. It will give us an eternal perspective and spiritual strength. The Sabbath also allows us to rest from our physical labors and worship the Lord.

Beehives Challenge: Find a creative way to keep the Sabbath day holy.

Mia Maids Challenge: Prepare to fast regarding a personal thing in your live.

Wednesday September 19

This week we made dinner for the Konewko family to say thank you for allowing us to use their swimming pool.  We made taco soup.  We also fulfilled our commitment to make dessert for the Blue Meadows ward after they beat us in the indexing challenge from June.  The kitchen was much to small for everyone to cook at once so we took turns and in the meantime played charades and passed out service hearts.  Remember to perform the service you selected.

Last Week's Lesson and Challenge

Last Sunday we discussed...

How can I be in the world but not of the world?

“Where once the standards of the Church and the standards of society were mostly compatible, now there is a wide chasm between us, and it's growing ever wider” (Thomas S. Monson, “Priesthood Power,” Ensign or Liahona, May 2011, 66). The Lord wants us to remain true to His standards and not partake of the evils of the world. At the same time, He expects us to be a good influence on those around us.

Beehives Challenge:
Be in the world without being worldly.

Mia Maids Challenge:
Dare to Stand Alone

We hope you've had a chance to participate in these challenges and look forward to hearing your insight.

Last Week's Lesson and Challenge

How do the things I say affect me and those around me?

How we communicate reflects our understanding of who we are as children of God. Our language can either uplift and encourage others, or it can hurt and offend them. When we use uplifting language, we invite the Holy Ghost to be with us.

Beehives Challenge:
Evaluate the movies you watch, the music you listen to, the way you use social media, etc... and find something you can change.

Mia Maids Challenge:
(There were two)
1. Hilary Weeks positive thought challenge
2. Lift someone up with your words this week.

I hope you are enjoying working on these challenges and we look forward to hearing about them on Sunday.

Combined YW & YM Activity 9-5

Last night we had our combined Young Men and Young Women's activity.  We said goodbye to summer with one last swim.  A huge thank you to Brother and Sister Konewko for letting us crash their place!  We had a great barbecue dinner with several desserts and 12 boxes of ding dongs, a big thank you also to those who helped provide our yummy dinner/dessert.  Looks like everyone had a great time!
Sorry girls, the smoke ruined this one.

Last Week's Lesson and Challenge

Last week we had a combined young women's lesson.  We learned about...

Why is it important to be honest?

Being honest means choosing not to lie, steal, cheat, or deceive in any way. When we are honest, we build strength of character that will allow us to be of great service to God and to others. We are blessed with peace of mind and self-respect and will be trusted by the Lord and others.

The challenge we were each given was to write down one way to be perfectly honest with yourself this week and strive to be that way.

Please come prepared to share your experiences.

This coming week we will be learning about "How do the things I say affect me and those around me?"  Take some time this week and ponder this question.

We look forward to learning together on Sunday!
