Last Week's Lesson and Challenge

This week we were asked to combine two lessons.

What are the blessings of a meaningful fast?

To fast is to go without food and drink voluntarily for a certain period of time. Fasting combined with sincere prayer can help you prepare yourself and others to receive God’s blessings. It is a source of spiritual strength. Through fasting we can feel closer to Heavenly Father and strengthen our testimony. Fasting also includes giving a generous fast offering to help those in need.

What are the blessings of honoring the Sabbath day?

The Lord has given the Sabbath day for our benefit and has commanded us to keep it holy. Observing the Sabbath shows our commitment to honor and worship God and keep our covenants. It will bring us closer to the Lord and to our family. It will give us an eternal perspective and spiritual strength. The Sabbath also allows us to rest from our physical labors and worship the Lord.

Beehives Challenge: Find a creative way to keep the Sabbath day holy.

Mia Maids Challenge: Prepare to fast regarding a personal thing in your live.

Wednesday September 19

This week we made dinner for the Konewko family to say thank you for allowing us to use their swimming pool.  We made taco soup.  We also fulfilled our commitment to make dessert for the Blue Meadows ward after they beat us in the indexing challenge from June.  The kitchen was much to small for everyone to cook at once so we took turns and in the meantime played charades and passed out service hearts.  Remember to perform the service you selected.

Last Week's Lesson and Challenge

Last Sunday we discussed...

How can I be in the world but not of the world?

“Where once the standards of the Church and the standards of society were mostly compatible, now there is a wide chasm between us, and it's growing ever wider” (Thomas S. Monson, “Priesthood Power,” Ensign or Liahona, May 2011, 66). The Lord wants us to remain true to His standards and not partake of the evils of the world. At the same time, He expects us to be a good influence on those around us.

Beehives Challenge:
Be in the world without being worldly.

Mia Maids Challenge:
Dare to Stand Alone

We hope you've had a chance to participate in these challenges and look forward to hearing your insight.

Last Week's Lesson and Challenge

How do the things I say affect me and those around me?

How we communicate reflects our understanding of who we are as children of God. Our language can either uplift and encourage others, or it can hurt and offend them. When we use uplifting language, we invite the Holy Ghost to be with us.

Beehives Challenge:
Evaluate the movies you watch, the music you listen to, the way you use social media, etc... and find something you can change.

Mia Maids Challenge:
(There were two)
1. Hilary Weeks positive thought challenge
2. Lift someone up with your words this week.

I hope you are enjoying working on these challenges and we look forward to hearing about them on Sunday.

Last night we had our combined Young Men and Young Women's activity.  We said goodbye to summer with one last swim.  A huge thank you to Brother and Sister Konewko for letting us crash their place!  We had a great barbecue dinner with several desserts and 12 boxes of ding dongs, a big thank you also to those who helped provide our yummy dinner/dessert.  Looks like everyone had a great time!
Sorry girls, the smoke ruined this one.

Last Week's Lesson and Challenge

Last week we had a combined young women's lesson.  We learned about...

Why is it important to be honest?

Being honest means choosing not to lie, steal, cheat, or deceive in any way. When we are honest, we build strength of character that will allow us to be of great service to God and to others. We are blessed with peace of mind and self-respect and will be trusted by the Lord and others.

The challenge we were each given was to write down one way to be perfectly honest with yourself this week and strive to be that way.

Please come prepared to share your experiences.

This coming week we will be learning about "How do the things I say affect me and those around me?"  Take some time this week and ponder this question.

We look forward to learning together on Sunday!

Last Week's Lesson and Challenge

Last week we discussed...

How do I honor and uphold the priesthood?

We honor the priesthood by sustaining our leaders and following their counsel. We seek for and live worthy to receive the blessings of the priesthood. We show respect for the authority God has given to bless His children.

Each class was given a challenge to work on for the week.

Beehives challenge:  Thank or show gratitude to a priesthood holder in your life.

Mia Maids challenge: Find one way to support and sustain an Aaronic Priesthood holder that you know and act upon it.

We look forward to hear about your experiences.

On Sunday we will have a joint lesson on why it is important to be honest.  Please take some time to prepare so that you can participate in the discussion.

Last Week's Lesson and Challenge

This week the Beehives and the Mia Maids had different lessons.

Beehives Lesson:

How does the priesthood bless me?

Through the priesthood, we can receive the ordinances of salvation, including baptism and confirmation and temple ordinances that seal our families eternally. Priesthood ordinances allow us to have the gift of the Holy Ghost to guide and comfort us. Through the priesthood we can also receive special blessings of comfort and healing, including father’s blessings and patriarchal blessings. And we benefit from inspired counsel given through priesthood leaders and home teachers.

Beehives Challenge:
Ask a priesthood holder (such as a father, brother, or friend) to share his testimony of the priesthood and how it blesses his family and affects his daily choices.

Mia Maids Lesson:

How do I receive personal revelation?

Each of us is entitled to personal revelation to guide our own lives. In order to receive personal revelation, we must prepare by living worthily and studying and pondering the scriptures. If we seek and ask, God will reveal His will to us through the Holy Ghost.

Mia Maids Challenge:
Continue using your personal revelation notebooks and look for opportunities to receive revelation.

Be prepared to come to class and tell us about your experiences. We look forward to the insight and testimonies each one of you brings.

Next week we will be studying "How do I honor and uphold the Priesthood".  Please study and ponders these topics and look forward to sharing those experiences as well.

YWIE Planning Meeting Aug 15

Last night we had our Young Women in Excellence Planning Meeting.  We voted between three theme ideas...
A Sewing theme (pattern our lives)
A Night in Camelot (daughters of a king)
Or a musical theme (instruments in the Lord's hands)
It was a close call, by one vote, A Night in Camelot won out.

We then divided assignments.  The Beehives are in charge of decorations, the Mia Maids the food, and our Laurel the invitations.
Separating into our classes, we planned out our theme.  Here are a few pictures while working in our groups.

Last Week's Lesson and Challenge

This week the Beehives and the Mia Maids had different lessons.

Beehives Lesson:

What are the keys of the priesthood?

Priesthood keys are the authority Heavenly Father has given to priesthood leaders to direct the use of His priesthood on earth. Jesus Christ has given to the members of the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve Apostles all the keys to lead the Church. Priesthood keys are also given to stake presidents, bishops, and quorum presidents—including Aaronic Priesthood quorum presidents.

Beehives Challenge:
1: Each of you were given a paper key and on the back were to write the following...
A. List the names of the presidents of the Deacons Quorum and the Teachers Quorum
B. List the names of the presidents of the Elders Quorum and the High Priest Group Leader
C. Who is the president of the Priests Quorum?
D. Who is president (not group leader) of the High Priests?
(A and B are the Aaronic Priesthood leaders and C and D are the Melchizedek Priesthood leaders)
E. Which of all these leaders holds keys?
2: How have you been blessed by leaders who hold priesthood keys?

Mia Maids Lesson:

How does the priesthood bless me?

Through the priesthood, we can receive the ordinances of salvation, including baptism and confirmation and temple ordinances that seal our families eternally. Priesthood ordinances allow us to have the gift of the Holy Ghost to guide and comfort us. Through the priesthood we can also receive special blessings of comfort and healing, including father’s blessings and patriarchal blessings. And we benefit from inspired counsel given through priesthood leaders and home teachers.

Mia Maids Challenge:
1: Ask a priesthood holder (such as a father, brother, or friend) to share his testimony of the priesthood and how it blesses his family and affects his daily choices.
2: Write in your journal why it is important to marry a worthy priesthood holder.  Also ponder how you can help the young men you associate with honor their priesthood.

Be prepared to come to class and tell us about your experiences.  We look forward to the insight and testimonies each one of you brings.

Next week the Beehives will be studying, "How does the priesthood bless me?"  The Mia Maids will be revisiting "How to gain Personal Revelation".  Please study and ponders these topics and look forward to sharing those experiences as well.

Personal Progress Aug 8

For Personal Progress this week, we made pillowcases to donate to our stake to give to children in hospitals who have cancer.  We put our sewing and ironing skills to the test and knocked out twelve pillowcases!  They turned out great!

The leaders were also able to pull out the girls and discuss their Personal Progress goals.  Remember that Young Women in Excellence is coming up in October and if you haven't set a goal or a value to work on, get with one of your leaders and we would love to help you find something and help you get started.
