WARNING: do not look at these pictures if you're hungry.... especially if you tend to crave sugar when you're hungry!
Ok, so now that you've been officially warned, we can get on with the update of our Mutual Activity this week! We started off the evening by going around the room and answering questions in hopes of "earning" a cake, frosting and various toppings. It was so heart warming to hear how so many of you love your hair and your eyes (and your calves, in Sister Seeley's case ;) We loved hearing about your aspirations for the future and smiled as you told about positive qualities about each other! You are all simply the best!! After we earned the goodies, we headed into the kitchen and let our creative side loose! Thank you all for coming!! Enjoy the rest of your Spring Break and don't forget to join us on Saturday at 1pm at Sister Seeley's for Conference! Bring a munchie to share and your journal for taking notes!! See you then! :)Wednesday, March 30, 2011

Taco Rolls & Bread - YUM!
From seeing all of the photos, I am so bummed I wasn't able to make it to Wednesdays activity (Sister Vogt here, speaking :) The recipes you made look incredible and from what I've heard - it tasted even BETTER than it looked (if that's possible!) If you're looking for the Yummy Bread Recipe to add to your own collection, it has been written on the next post down...
This week we met at Rachael's house for another cooking instruction! This time by our wonderful Personal Progress leader, Sister Wing! We were able to do a hands on class working with a yummy (and simple) bread recipe and then bless a few of the families in our ward with what we made!! :)
You can certainly incorporate the recipes you learned to prepare to serve to your family!

And don't forget how this activity fulfilled part of a personal progress experience!
Service is an essential principle of family living. Help plan your family’s menus, obtain the food, and prepare part of the meals for two weeks. During that time help your family gather to share mealtimes. Report to your class what you have learned. You can certainly incorporate the recipes you learned to prepare to serve to your family!

March 23rd Mutual Activity
Don't Be A Hamburger Helper Wife!
Alright, while there's NOTHING wrong with Hamburger Helper... the goal for this activity is to build your repertoire of dinner menus for your future family! So this week we will be back in the kitchen (YAY!!) learning to cook some easy - yet YUMMY recipes!
We're going to be using Rachael's kitchen this night so we'll be meeting over at her house :) Aimee and Karly - you're on your own to get there (heeeee! you know that is said in a super loving way :) and the rest of you girls.... we will be picking you up. Most likely the same leader that picked you up last week - but just be ready by 6:50pm and someone will be by with a ride!
See you all there!!
Welcome Sister Clemente!!
Life is constantly changing - is it not?!
Sister Ross and her family are moving out of the ward- booo :( and while we will miss her terribly! we now have the opportunity to welcome in another fantastic leader..... Sister Clemente! She is the new Counselor over our beautiful Beehives! She is still helping out in the primary (playing the piano for them) so she hasn't been able to be with us on Sundays but she has jumped in with both feet and was at our Mutual activity last Wednesday!
I "interviewed" her (ok, I sent her a few questions via email! lol) so we could all get to know her a bit more. Enjoy her replies! (we'll update this with a current photo of her later this week ;)
Tell us something unique about yourself:
Carbonated drinks burn my throat, so I've never drank an entire soda at one time in my life! Growing up, I never got jokes so I would laugh about 5 minutes later, when I got it! One time, I got to interpret (in Spanish) for a priesthood meeting at the MTC because they couldn't find enough brethren who were available! (I didn't serve a mission, but the Missionary Training Center in Provo, UT asked BYU students who spoke different languages to interpret). I would prefer to mow the lawn than to dust my house.
What is something you remember about YW as a girl?
I think some things never change! I also remember playing broom hockey and making suckers when I was in YW!!! One experience stands out because of one Young Women reaching out to me, and it helped me open up and feel included. As a youth I always loved YW, but I was painfully shy. Right before 11th grade started, we moved to a different city and were in a different ward in our stake (since I grew up in Virginia, one stake was several cities in size). I recognized a girl in my new ward from stake activities, and she was also in my new high school. She just took my under her wing, showed me the ropes at church and school, picked me up for early morning seminary, and invited me to come with her to cross country practice at school. I did, and although I almost threw up every practice that first week and every meet I attended, I found I enjoyed challenging myself running! Crazy! I met a great group of friends, I learned to enjoy being in social situations, and I will forever be grateful to Laura for reaching out to me. By the way, I still love running!
What are your talents/hobbies?

What are your talents/hobbies?
Hablo español. (I speak Spanish), I love to play volleyball and run, I make one Christmas ornament each year based on something our family has done, I love to bake and eat any sweet baked thing, I like to be involved in education, I play the piano and would love to have the time to read!
If you had a super power, what would it be?
To fly!!! I would love to soar and swoop and visit anywhere and everywhere, landing where I wanted.
Do you like Cheesecake? (you girls know I had to ask this one, right!?)
I love it! Homemade, from a box, from the Cheesecake Factory--it doesn't matter, I like cheesecake.
We are so excited to have Sister Clemente in YW!! I know that she was called by our Heavenly Father to serve with your girls at this time! Let's all be sure to welcome her warmly!!

Lollipop Making 101
What a SWEET activity!!
Tonight we met over at Sister Ross's (we'll miss you Sister Ross!! She will be moving at the end of this month... But all of us will be in wonderful hands with Sister Clemente - who was just called to serve as the Counselor over the Beehives!)
What a fun time we had as we learned, step by step, how to make suckers! Here is the recipe if any of you would like to have a copy:
Hard Suckers
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. water
1/3 c. corn syrup
1/4 tsp. oil flavor
Food coloring
1/2 c. water
1/3 c. corn syrup
1/4 tsp. oil flavor
Food coloring
Combine sugar, water and corn syrup. Stir constantly until it starts to boil. Stop stirring and let it cook to hard crack (300°F.).
Remove from heat. Add flavoring and food coloring. Stir and pour into greased sucker molds arranged on a greased cookie sheet or a marble slab.
Makes 10 suckers
.I loved how you guys decided to make the Apple Flavored ones Purple! and the Cherry flavored ones Yellow! Don't forget how the Green ones were Cinnamon flavored and the Pink ones were Peppermint! Your mind definitely gets thrown for a loop when you pick up a purple lollipop (expecting it to be grape!) and it turns out to be apple!
While we waited for the ingredients to boil long enough (and reach the right temp) the girls went through magazines looking for things that would represent their "vision" of themselves in the future. It could represent their style, home life, children, and even pets and room decor! It was really fun seeing what you girls chose as your VISION! I'm so glad that everyone was able to make it! It really makes my heart so happy when we all come together and do fun activities each week! Enjoy the rest of your week and remember that you are a precious daughter of God!

Personal Progress Spotlight
Yesterday during the Personal Progress Spotlight - Cheyenne received two ribbon bookmarks! She has completed the Value Experiences along with a 10 hour project for both Individual Worth and Virtue!! We are so proud of her and her accomplishments! Yesterday she told us about her 10 hour Individual Worth Project:
Cheyenne created a blog to compile and document all of her crafts and Personal Progress Projects! I have spent some time reading her blog and walked away with 2 thoughts:
1) WOW! what can't this girl do!?
2) I was just so inspired by how she is developing her talents that will help her throughout her entire life! Not only is she blessing her current family - but she is blessing her future family as well!
Here is a link to Cheyenne's Blog - Every Shade of Color
Feel free to check it out and see what Cheyenne has been up to!

Personal Progress Night
This week we are having a Personal Progress Night! I know many of you awesome girls have been working hard on your value experiences and projects! Be sure to bring your books (and any projects you have completed to share!) because you'll each get a chance to meet with your loving Adviser and go over what you've been working on and make goals for this next month!!
Here is a link to a quick and fun little article that was in the New Era a few years back. It's called: 5 Reasons to Love Personal Progress!
It's never too early to start thinking about Young Women in Excellence (it'll be held in October) and so start thinking about what project you might like to work on throughout this year to display! :)
We'll also be working on the Bulletin Board and decorating it around this months Value - INDIVIDUAL WORTH!
